March 13th - BCHD Press Release

What we have been told...

Springfield golf Center received a phone call late Friday night informing us a press release identifying our business as a location patronized by a Chesterfield, NJ man, who tested positive for the Covid-19 virus, was being sent out.  No further information was provided.

My employee who fielded the call contacted me and I contacted BCHD for more details. Fortunately, I received a return phone call and discussed the matter at length with a Health Department Official.

He said the man stated he was at our facility from Noon to 5:30pm (I know the BCHD Press Release and news reports say 12;30pm - 9pm) and came into the building to get a hot dog and soda; NO other details were given. [We are only open to dark this time of year; 7pm at present]

The Health Department Official said his investigator felt the encounter "posed a low risk" to our employee(s) and or customers.

He didn't know the man's name, nor could he provide much detail other than the man was from Chesterfield, NJ.

What we know...

  • The man was a public CUSTOMER who resides in Chesterfield, NJ
  • Our employee who most likely interacted with him, feels fine and has shown no signs of being infected seven (7)  days on.
  • Our employee, an older man, has voluntarily quarantined himself for an additional seven (7) days, to reduce contact with fellow staff and customers.
  • We believe we have now identified the individual and will further investigate his interactions with staff and customers, as well as try to determine the length of time he spent in our building to better understand what impact he may have had.
  • As we are able to determine/confirm information, that is germane to his time at Springfield golf Center, we will do our best to share it in an appropriate and lawful manner.

Timeline Of Events From Video Cameras

We believe we have ascertained the identity of the individual involved and have tracked his movements within our building.

  • +/- 12:15pm to 12:20pm - Entered building to pay for his greens fees with one of his playing partners, then walked out to put his bag on the golf cart.
  • +/- 12:20pm to 12:31pm - Walked back into building, renewed his bar membership and purchased four beers to take out on the golf course
  • +/- 2:41pm to 2:47pm - Entered the building between nines and ordered two hotdogs and two soda.  Paid and left.
  • +/- 5:10pm - His foursome returned their golf carts, turned in their cart key and received their key deposits, then immediately walked to the parking lot and left the facility.
  • In & Out of building on 3 separate occasions for a total of 22 minutes
  • On golf course playing for +/-4.5 hours

As suspected, he was at our facility playing golf and spent limited time in our building and made limited contact with staff and other customers alike.  To correct the record, the man WAS NOT at our facility from Noon to 9pm.  He was at our facility from Noon to 5:15pm.

What we are doing...

  • We are cleaning surfaces and areas on a regular basis and with appropriate chemicals.
  • We have vastly limited service at the bar, reducing it to cash and carry items that do not allow people to congregate or linger in the building.
  • We continue to assess and reassess our routines, habits, and processes to reduce close contact/interaction between staff and customers, as well as customer to customer.
  • No plan shall be perfect.  Everyone must heed CDC and Health Department guidance regarding person to person interactions and good personal hygiene.
